Picking the right playbook in Madden 09 |
|
I don't know about you guys but picking a playbook is the first thing I do when I get the game. The playbook for me is essential to the way I play and can literally get you a lot of wins just by setting up your audibles in a way that keeps your opponent off balance and have them guessing all the time.
I usually pick my playbook depending on the team I'm going to use. So I'll have multiple playbooks. For this write up I'm going to try to find a playbook for the Washington Redskins, my favorite NFL team.
Now in previous years I would pick a playbook that gave me some good running plays but this year, the Skins have beefed up the offense by getting two tall wide receivers and another big TE to compliment Cooley.
The first thing you need to do is to tap into the Madden Community resources and get a list of playbooks you can look at online. This has been a great help because it will eliminate a couple of playbooks without having to get in the game and looking at them play by play.
Here are the two I used this year:
VGSports - VG is giving away a FREE Ebook with all of the playbooks both offensive and defensive. Click here for the Madden 09 playbook ebook.
SportsGamer.com - SG has a great training camp feature that is very useful along with team playbooks. Click here to see SG's Training Camp
Ok, so like I was saying I need more of a passing playbook; one with some two TE sets would be nice because I'm a firm believer that utilizing your TE can help both your up the field passing game and your running game. With Cooley and rookie Fred Davis both havin 85 speed I'm going to look for a lot of mismatches.
You first want to look at the teams playbook because they are what the nfl team uses in real life, so their playbook would definitely take advantage of the team's best player. I looked through the skins playbook but I didn't see enough two te sets. I also considered my QB (Jason Campbell) into the equation as his THA is not that good, I need quick reads and short routes to get me down the field. I checked out Run Balanced and it was perfect.
In my next write-up I'll tell you how I set up my audibles and maybe it will give you some ideas on how to set up your audibles.
Until next time, see you on the field.
